How do the original Yakuza 1 and 2 compare to the Kiwami remakes? Which versions should a newcomer play first?

never got why cod/ass creed are called rehash games yet yakuza literally reuses the same map most games and gets called "original and fresh"

Because journalists hate that COD is more popular than gay depression simulators. Everyone calls Yakuza lazy too and most people will tell you to play Zero and forget the franchise exists after that.

Which is weird because 2 is just better, less wacky nonsense, actually new and less derivative, graphics leaving more to your imagination instead of shoving the ugly 3D models in your faceAll new games just look like Play-Doh sh*t

the thing with new yakuza is is that the gameplay is still as shallow as ever, which is fine on PS2 if you have some sense of zeitgeist but just doesn't cut it anymore in a newer game. though most people who play yakuza couldn't care less about gameplay

If you can stomach the original gameplay, I'd go with the originals. I haven't played K2 but K1 takes a lot from 0 and continues some sequels to substories and stuff from that game.

gameplay in the new games isn't much different from OG 2, let alone better. it's weird how much mileage sega got out of this franchise

Well they did come out at around the tail end of the PS2's life span. That and with all the games RGG churns out, it doesnt really feel like its been that long.

Kiwami 1 is better than the OG except for the way it ruined the main protagonist of the game turning him into a crybaby cuck
Kiwami 2 is worse than the OG in everything- Anonymous

>Kiwami 1 is better than the OG
Holy frick no. Poorly remixed soundtrack, awful Majima everywhere system, Kiwami finishers that were rightfully never re-introduced, and the added Nishiki cutscenes make Kazama seem like a lazy dick.

Play all the original releases in order. The first one is great because of the voice acting, second one is even better with improved loading times and probably the best story in the series. Play 0 only after completing 5.

Both of the original games are better than the Kiwami remasters. I'm surprised /vr/ hates the original game so much.
Kiwami 1 was kinda pointless. We already had Kiwami 1, and it was Yakuza 0 which is basically just a soft-retread of all of the big set-pieces that happened in Yakuza 1. It's also full of Yakuza 1 callbacks and fanservice wankery.

Its basically more of the same, in terms of combat and especially exploration. Its not until Ishin/3 on PS3 that the camera system is massively overhauled.
